Description: 1880 Apr 19, envelope from Great Britain to China, franked with Great Britain 2 1/2d horizontal pair, tied by 'Lurgan Mar 4' duplex of dispatch, on arrival in China a vertical pair of the 1878 3ca brown-red has been affixed, cancelled and tied by Customs SHANGHAI c.d.s. of Apr 19, then carried to Peking; Hong Kong transit backstamp of Apr 18 and an endorsement indicating arrival in Peking on Apr 25 /
Note: Double rate of 6 candarins postage due covering the internal rate for letters within China.

Description: 1880 June 24, envelope from Great Britain to China, franked with Great Britain 2 1/2d vertical pair, tied by 'Lurgan May 13' duplex of dispatch; on arrival in China an 1878 3ca brown-red has been affixed, cancelled and tied by a deep blue SHANGHAI Customs c.d.s. of June 24, then carried to Peking; Hong Kong transit backstamp of June 20 and Shanghai Customs June 24, there is an endorsement indicating arrival in Peking on June 29 /
Note: Single rate of 3 candarins postage due covering the internal rate for letters within China. The earliest recorded use of the Shanghai Customs c.d.s. cancellation in blue, and one of the finest items from the 'Hancock' correspondence.
